Default HARDWARE vs SOFTWARE

Software +/-:
-easy to upgrade
-less expensive
-difficult to manage(require to manage updates, patches of OS + firewall)
-not an turnkey solution, a lot of config and hardware design before getting an operational solution

Hardware +/-::
-easy to install (plug & play solution)
-easy to manage (less updates & patches)
-easy to use (it does only what it needs to do
-less upgradable

Default HARDWARE vs SOFTWARE

I am currently completing an IT course and need a little help to complete an assignment. What would a video store requirements be for upgrading their computer hardware, software and peripheral needs? I am stuck and need some tips . Thanks all
